Myths & Mysteries

In this lesson, students learned how to express personal opinions on myths and mysteries by using a range of verbs to indicate varying degrees of certainty. By using the online wheel, students were exposed to a variety of interesting questions that evoked exciting discussions! Meanwhile, students learned how to show agreement and disagreement in their conversations!

Theme: Myths & Mysteries

Goal: Express personal opinions on mysteries by using verbs indicating varying degrees of certainty.

Objectives (SWBAT):

   Students Will Be Able To ...

  • use expressions to show agreement and disagreement on controversial issues and others’ opinions

  • develop skills in listening for main ideas and details in discussions where speakers have different opinions on the same issue

Activity

Listening & Speaking – Mysteries!

  • First Round of Speaking:

    • Have students discuss three questions in their groups without any guidance at first.

  • Ask students to listen to an audio clip and focus on how the speakers expressed various degrees of certainty by circling the target vocabulary on the worksheet.

  • Second Round of Speaking:

    • Have students utilize the abovementioned words in their discussions.

  • Ask students to pay attention to how the speakers showed agreement and disagreement in the conversation by listening to the same audio clip again.

  • Third Round of Speaking:

    • Ask students to discuss three more questions by applying the expressions to show agreement and disagreement.​​​​
